Description

Thermochromic ink is Red below 31°C and translucent above 31°C. It stays red at room temperature and clears with the warmth of a hand.

Thermochromic Ink is a magical coating that changes colour when exposed to certain temperatures.

By rubbing the coated surface with your hand or using a heat source above 31°C, the ink will become translucent and reveal what is beneath. When the ink cools below its activation temperature, it returns to red. This change repeats itself again and again.

Our thermochromic ink comes in 2 parts (slurry and binder), which must be mixed 50/50 prior to use. You cannot use the slurry without the binder, as the ink will simply dry and fall off; the binder is what fixes the slurry to the surface. Tell us your application and we'll advise on printing it.

Our products can be screen printed onto textiles, paper and board. Please let us know if this product is being applied to different substrates such as wood, plastic, metal, glass or ceramics. It is best to apply this ink using thin coats. Apply via screen printing or a foam roller; avoid brushes, which can't apply the ink thinly or evenly enough.

If using heat to dry the print, keep it low and short: stay below 180°C, as briefly as possible, and avoid prolonged heat above 75°C. Brief heat at 100°C for 1–2 minutes is fine.

Use to hide messages or text that appear at a touch.

Storage: Keep it in a cool, dark place, ideally at 20°C or below, with the lid tightly closed, and use within 12 months. Don't let it freeze, and don't store it with food or drink. Direct sunlight and UV damage the thermochromic materials.

Before use, please read the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and the Safety Data Sheets for the thermochromic slurry (SDS) and the binder (SDS). For step-by-step advice on paper, board and fabric, read our guide: How to screen print thermochromic ink →
