Thermochromic Temperature Responsive Smart Film Sheet

PRODUCT INFORMATION

COLOUR CHANGING: Thermochromic film changes colour when exposed to temperatures of 28°C (82.4°F) and above. As a result, the adhesive film can be used to temporarily hide images or text that are only revealed once warm hands or heat activates the film. The film is black and opaque below 28°C (82.4°F) but becomes translucent and loses most of its opacity once activated. 

A SMART MATERIAL: Thermochromic film is a smart material that changes its characteristics when exposed to temperature by exhibiting a reversible colour change. In addition to being part of the national curriculum, smart materials have a number of beneficial applications in science, education and design.

HOW ITS USED: This innovative material is used for a wide range of applications, including art installations, sensory rooms, education, smart labels, promotional flyers, creative projects, thermal indication, escape rooms, temperature measurement, magic tricks and as a demonstration material. A material with hundreds of exciting uses in everyday life, some still yet to be discovered. 

HOW ITS APPLIED: Carefully remove the backing liner by hand, exposing the adhesive then gently apply the film directly to your chosen surface, ensuring the surface is dry and clean. Apply at room temperature (21°C). Use pressure once the film is applied to ensure even adhesion. Once the film has been applied, leave it for 24 hours. This will allow the adhesive to cure and adhere to the surface. Cropping or resizing should be carried out using bladed equipment such as a guillotine or a craft knife.

Activation (response temperature): 28°C (82.4°F). Custom activation temperatures are available upon request 

Size: 150mm by 210mm or 300mm by 420mm. Sheet sizes may vary by a couple of mm, due to the machine cutting process.  For custom orders please email us.

Thickness: 180-200 micron (once backing liner is removed)

Adhesive: Semi-permanent adhesive and easy peel release liner.

Colour: Black to translucent at 28°C (82.4°F) Custom colours available upon request. 

Texture and finish: Smooth, Matt

Transition phase: The clearing of colour takes place over a period of 3°C (37.4F°). The clearing begins at 28°C (82.4°F) and has fully changed by 31°C (87.8°F).

IMPORTANT: This material should be thoroughly tested before application. A small tester size of 150mm by 210mm is available above. Information provided is for guidance only and should not replace your own independent testing. Please avoid direct exposure to UV and temperatures of <0°C and 65°C>. Once applied to your chosen surface, the film may be difficult to remove, which may cause damage to the surface or the thermochromic film. Surfaces should be tested to ensure adhesion is suitable.
